Now based in Melbourne, Kylie began her career as a TV reporter in Canberra, before switching to print media when she joined The Newcastle Herald in 1992. She won the prestigious NSW Young Journalist of the Year award in 1994, which included a month-long placement at The Straits Times in Singapore, for a feature article on youth unemployment. After a year on the foreign desk at The Bangkok Post in 1997, Kylie returned to Australia and worked for eight years at The Age, including six years as a television columnist, feature writer and deputy editor of the Green Guide. She profiled Midnight Oil singer-turned-politician Peter Garrett for a book on leading Australians, worked as a consultant on award-winning feature film Look Both Ways, supports the marketing efforts of the Australian Red Cross Blood Service and is collaborating on a collection of children’s stories with her mother, Michele.
